Only had a single night, but upgrade to a suite, and that was well worth paying a little more. Luxurious room, maybe needing a little work, but what you might expect for an old traditional hotel. Dinner was good too, simple 2-course add-on to our room, but again worth it.

Staff very helpful...arranged free car parking in their restricted parking lot at the rear of the hotel...easy access to the shops and Her Majesty's Theatre.
Stayed for 4 nights and to be honest I expected better from this hotel. Location was excellent and really useful for the centre of the city. Being in a city centre location, parking was at a premium but 10 a night to park is ridiculous. We choose to park further away for nothing and walk. The room was what I would describe as fading grandeur: has been nice at some point in the past but is getting tired and needs some attention. There were several pieces of furniture in the room including a wardrobe, desk, comfy armchair and TV unit. There was a safe provided in the room. The curtains were a very heavy drape and really darkened the room, ideal if you are disturbed by light. We found the bed incredibly hard and uncomfortable although I appreciate that everyone is different. We are used to a memory foam style so the feel is much softer. There were no spare pillows available nor were there any additional blanket/covers for the bed if the provided quilt was not warm enough. We live in Southern France and are used to much higher temperatures. Fortunately the external temperatures in Scotland during our visit were unseasonably warm and we did not require these. There was a kettle provided in the room with a reasonable supply of tea, instant coffee and milk. There was a function on in the hotel the first night we were there, a Saturday, during this, our room on the first floor was so incredibly noisy we could barely hear the TV. The noise carried on well after 10pm and although the other nights were quiet it was nonetheless annoying. Had I known there was a function on that night I would not have booked this hotel as we had been travelling from early that morning and were exhausted. I did go to reception to complain about the noise as I had specifically asked for a quiet room, but was told that we could not change rooms as the hotel was fully booked. We did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food. In general the reception staff were pleasant and professional and the hotel was clean. The location was excellent. On another visit to Aberdeen I am not sure this hotel would be on our list of places to stay as the benefits of location are easily matched by others, coupled with the cost of parking, the uncomfortable beds and the noise the first night, this was a disappointing visit.
